L222 - INT. BLUE TWELVE'S STARSHIP - COCKPIT
- TRAVELING
"CU. Blue Twelve as his ship explodes, filling the cockpit
with smoke and flames."
This
split-second shot of Red 12 ("Blue 12" in
the screenplay) is the only glimpse we ever get of the
pilot, and it's a blooper at that. |

Red 12
(along with Red Leader and Red 10) was part of a second group of
fighters to make an attack run on the Death Star's exhaust port.
We get to see all three fighters move into position and make the
run, but unlike his partners, Red 12 has no dialogue and, with the
exception of a half-second shot (above), we don't get to see his
face.
Red 12 was the first of the group to be destroyed by Vader and his
wingmen, as seen in an external camera angle. But for unknown reasons,
the cockpit view of his demise was only used later as part of Red
10's destruction. This is evidenced by the differing helmet
design, one that is not seen anywhere else in the film.
Presumably more footage of the pilot was filmed, but only this single
misplaced shot made it into the movie. The actor who played Red
12 is unknown.
252
- INT. MASASSI OUTPOST - MAIN THRONE ROOM
An
unscripted moment - the heroes enjoy their time of honor. |
